Prof. Merra Gudina, the Chairman of the Oromo Federal Congress (OFCO), believes that the current government in Ethiopia is causing harm to various ethnic groups, including the Oromo people. In an interview with Finfine News Network, Prof. Merra emphasized that the solution to the political tensions in Ethiopia lies in negotiation rather than war.
Despite repeatedly calling for negotiation and dialogue since 2018, Prof. Merra expressed frustration that their pleas have gone unheard. He stressed that negotiation and dialogue are the only viable paths forward.
The chairman criticized the government for using different security forces, including the national defense army, in ways that harm the people of the country.
He suggested that the national defense forces should prioritize protecting the people rather than serving as tools of the government.
According to Prof. Merra Gudina, achieving genuine peace and stability in Ethiopia hinges on the independence of peacekeeping forces. He emphasized that the ongoing war in the country is a direct consequence of over-reliance on warfare as a solution. Prof. Merra underscored the necessity of resolving political issues through negotiation rather than resorting to military actions.
